Module 1: The Social Production of Science

Join the New Haven chapter of Science for the People’s Political Education working group as we host the first module of our 12-part monthly series on The Social Production of Science!

In this module, we will explore how organismal and human labor (and labor power) is structured under capitalism by our interactions with the environment and how this shapes the capitalist labor process of science, with a view towards building a radical science for the people.

We will read the following texts:

“Introduction” and Chapter 1 “Labor and Labor Power” of Harry Braverman’s “Labor and Monopoly Capital: The Degradation of Work in the Twentieth Century”

Chapter 2 “Organism and Environment” of Richard Lewontin’s “Triple Helix: Gene, Organism, and Environment”
